Wichita Sate Basketball has gone global! New Director of Basketball Operations Brett Coxesdge, comes to Wichita,KS from Australia. As basketball continues to be a growing sport around the globe, the emergance of European and Middle Eastern players bring added depth and value to a Wichita State team, attempting to capture a second MVC championship. With the addition of Gal Mekel from Israel (a freshmen guard), WSU basketball team continues to reach out and expand the program in a positive manner.
Brett Coxesdge will provide a window in the global recruitig world. Mark Turgeon and his staff have created a pipline from Texas, the addition of Coxesdge as a member to the staff may help create a world wide pipeline. As Jim Schaus says, "It's a great time to be a Shocker.''

"Too Good to pass up"

Where are they now?

Do you know all of your reletives on the old family tree? Well, I did not think so. While Wichita State Men's basketball continues to blossom, coach Mark Turgeon's family coaching tree is starting to branch out (pun intended).

Last season coach Jean Prioleau helped work the sidelines at Marquette University with Head coach Tom Crean, leading the Golden Eagles to NCAA basketball tournament.I believe former Utah coach Rick" the pick" Majerus, would prosper at Marquette, if he were to return to the coaching sideline. Former student, player, and pupil to the great Al Mcguire.
This 2006-2007 season Jean Prioleau will join forces with former UNI great Greg McDermott to work among the boys of the BIG XII. Iowa State presents some interesting opportunities. One of the loudest areans in the country. McDermott showcased his talents with the UNI Panthers program leading his team to national rankings and multiple NCAA births. Jean Prioleau will add a great dimension to the Iowa State program, with his energetic approach to recruting on the east coast, along with his great impact working with the backcourt players.

A partner in crime for many years Tad Boyle, finds himself in a familer place, his hometown; Greeley Colorado. A hometown hero during his highschool, Tad Boyle makes his first head coaching job: University Northern Colorado a place to keep on the radar. Boyle and Turgeon lead Jacksonville State to improvement each and every year, and we all know the great things the two coaches did together at Wichita State. The Big Sky league brings in a real jem of a coach. He works with such a spirit that reflects onto his players. Remember folks; Boyle, coached: Troy Mack,Paul Miller,Kyle Wilson,Ryan Martin,Rob Kampman,Bret Wise. Boyle understands how to teach young players the rough and tumble world of being a impact big man. GO Bears!

About two hours north of Kansas City we find Northwest Missouri State. We find Jerome Haden. Hard work, hard work, hard work. You may not remember coach Haden, yet those who went to into battle on game day, remember Jerome Haden with a warm heart. A former assistant at Newmen University, and admisistravtive assistant from 2001-2006 for Wichita Sate men's basketball, Jerome comes into Northwest Missouri with a bundle of knowledge and basketball IQ. The Bearcats may be known for football, yet keep your eye's on those seats in the basketball arena. A young coach on the rise, Haden's stock for future jobs will continue to grow.

Mark Turgeon's family tree continues to branch out. New coaches may have filled the void left by, Prioleau,Boyle and Haden but these gentlemen will be rememberd as a corner stone that helped bring bWichita ack State basketball to the national map.Go Shockers! Go Cyclones!,Go Bears!, Go Bearcats!

A NEW WU

One of the most unique mascots in college today, Wu; remains a question mark to many outsiders as to who he is (he is a "shock" of wheat) With college basketball less than a month from offical practices starting nation wide, Wu will dawn a new look on the basketball court.
What do you think he will look like??

Where have you gone?

Shirts around the campus may say "Undefeated since 1986", and we all may laugh, but as fall saturday's pass us by, the empty seats at Cessan Stadium cry out for a bygone eara of Wichita State Football. As father time moves along we hold on to a past that we believe can live again, only if in our hearts. Across the country alumni flock to their beloved universities and enjoy a day full of story telling, and tailgating and football. Sadly, the days of Wichita State Football are gone.
Wichita State football is carried on today in the NFL by Bill Parcles. Yes, that Bill Parcells. The super bowl winning coach of the New York Giants, and current head coach of Dallas.
The university needs to imbrace the football program. WSU never reached the national championship game, or even a high profile bowl game, they reached our hearts.
On September 11th, 1982 WSU defeated KU 13-10. The low point.... well, we know this one all to well. The plane crash of the Wichita State football team is still recognized to this day with a reath layaing ceremony on campus and permenant memorial to those who passed away on a most tragic of days.
The administration should celebrate and be proud of the team and players who dawned the black and yellow of our school. Players such as; Jumpy Geathers (pictured in his Washingtion Redskins uniform) went on to play for 13 years in the NFL winning Super Bowl XXVI with the Redskins. Perhaps the most beloved player of all Prince McJunkins....a hero to all who rember. A player for WSU from 1979-1982, he went on to a nice career in the CFL. The Shockers also hiered the first black coach in division 1-a football. Here is a nice story aobut WSU football as well.

We all hope you come back soon Shocker football.

Early Shocker news #17

Wichita State University, over the past weekend made a trip up to Canada to play a series of three NCAA sanctioned warm-up games. Click here for more news on the trip to our neighbors up north,eh.
Spending a nice weekend, in Las Vegas, NV, I surprisingly found a Lindy's college basketball preivew magazine. Curious to see how my Shockers are viewed by the national media, i purchased the magazine for my three hour flight home.
Pre Season #17
Below are some quick hits about the Shockers:
Top Shooting Guards: PJ Cousinard #17 (Wichita State)
*I was surprised to see a member of the team listed here among some elite company:(Nate Funk/Creighton/#2)
(Lee Humphrey/Florida/#27) and (Chris Lofton/Tennessee/#10).

Top 10 Backcourts :
Perhaps one of the best compliments I have ever seen, about Wichita State. Lindy's posted WSU as the #2 backcourt in the enitre country!

1. North Carolina
2. Wichita State
"center Paul Miller was the Missouri Valley Conference Most Valuable Player. But guard play was just as much a reason why coach mark Turgeon's team won the conference regular season championship and knocked of Seton Hall and Tennessee (with a great guard in Lofton) in the NCAA tournament.
Juniors Sean Ogirii and PJ Cousinard could both be first-team all conference choices. Matt Braeuer and Marquette-transfer Karon Bradley, who combined for 40 starts were evyer bit as effective as well. Turgeon made the group even deeper with the summer signing of Israeli Gal Mekal."
